Completed on August 11, 2019, "Engeika" is the first large-scale mural in Berlin by the internationally acclaimed Irish street artist Fin DAC. Located in a secluded courtyard at Köpenicker Straße 9 in Berlin-Kreuzberg, the piece was commissioned as part of the "One Wall" project by Urban Nation. The mural features a full-length figure dressed in a sumptuous, textured orange kimono, showcasing the artist’s signature "urban aesthetics" style and his recurring "Hidden Beauty" theme. A defining characteristic of this work is what Fin DAC calls "wall adaptation." Rather than simply painting over the surface, the artist meticulously integrated the building’s physical features into the composition. Real windows, balconies, and even a hanging lantern are incorporated into the artwork, blurring the lines between the painted image and the physical structure. This clever use of the surroundings makes the figure appear to be leaning against the very architecture of the courtyard, creating a seamless blend of art and urban environment. The mural is instantly recognizable by the striking turquoise mask painted across the subject's eyes—a trademark element of Fin DAC’s work that suggests both mystery and empowerment. The name "Engeika" and the choice of a geisha-inspired figure reflect the artist's fascination with traditional East Asian aesthetics, reimagined through a modern, street-art lens. Despite its hidden location, the vibrant colors and imposing scale of the piece have made it a premier highlight of Berlin's street art scene, drawing visitors to discover this quiet masterpiece in the heart of Kreuzberg.
